Tensions have been on the rise between top tech leaders and his administration in the past months following Trump’s inauguration as the president of the United States. Notable tech leaders Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, and Apple’s CEO Tim Cook have shown interest and support for the current administration. However, following a series of political disputes and new policies, tension is beginning to foster between these tech giants and the new administration. Trump’s administration has shown a big interest in regulating Big Tech like Google, Meta, Amazon, and Apple, and it’s no surprise as…
Google announced a strategic partnership with Taiwanese semiconductor giant MediaTek to develop its next-generation custom AI chips, Tensor Processing Units (TPU). On March 17, the announcement of this partnership sparked speculation about its potential to transform the semiconductor landscape. This partnership, however, does not imply that Google will be severing ties with Broadcom, its longtime partner in manufacturing TPUs, but instead it is a step to mitigate supply risks by having multiple suppliers and enhance the supply chain resilience. For the past decade, Google has been developing custom AI accelerators, the TPU, to address the growing demands of AI workloads…
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has issued warnings regarding the spike of “smishing” scams targeting smartphone users around the world. Smishing has been a threat since the early 2010s but became more prevalent during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Smishing is a type of “phishing” that comes in the form of text messages. It involves scammers/fraudsters sending fraudulent messages that are designed to trick their recipients into revealing sensitive information. The texts take the form of reminders and links to pay for parking violations, road toll collection services, fake delivery service alerts, or links to loan applications that would require…
On the 14th of March 2025 at 7:03 p.m. EDT, the SpaceX Crew-10 mission launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida for crew rotation and to pave the way for two NASA astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who were stuck on the space station for nine months. The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carried a crew of four members: NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Takuya Onishi, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Kirill Peskov for a crew rotation in the Dragon spacecraft. The Dragon spacecraft docked to the ISS (International Space Station) at 12:04…
Google announced its intent to phase out Google Assistant in favor of its advanced AI model, Gemini, in an article released on the 14th of March on its website. This transition will mark the end for the voice assistant that has become synonymous with Android devices. The official date for when Google Assistant will no longer be available hasn’t been announced; however, Brian Marquardt, a senior director for the Gemini app, had this to say: “Over the coming months, we’re upgrading more users on mobile devices from Google Assistant to Gemini; and later this year, the classic Google Assistant will…
On the 20th of February, 2025, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced the creation of Cyber and Technologies Unit (CETU). In a press release by SEC, the objective of the new unit is to “combat cyber-related misconduct and to protect retail investors from bad actors in the emerging technologies space”. The newly created unit CETU, led by Laura D’Allaird is to replace the Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit. It consists of approximately 30 fraud specialists and attorneys across multiple SEC offices. The unit will also be working alongside the Crypto Task Force formed in January 2025, (which focuses…
Lip-Bu Tan, a former Intel board member and a veteran of the semiconductor industry, was announced as Intel’s Chief Executive Officer, effective from the 18th of March, 2025. Chinese tech giant Alibaba is set to rival DeepSeek AI with its release of QwQ (Qwen with Questions) -32B, an open-source AI reasoning model. It was first introduced by the company in November 2024, and then on the 6th of March 2025, Alibaba made an official launch of the large language model (LLM), QwQ-32B, which rivaled the common notion about LLMs. It was believed over time that the more the parameters, the better the LLMs and the higher its performance. Parameters are internal variables or settings that are used to train LLMs to understand and generate human language, influencing the…
Quantum computing is a multidisciplinary field of computer science, mathematics, and physics that harnesses the unique qualities of quantum mechanics to solve problems beyond the ability of even the most powerful classical computers. The potential quantum computing holds is unparalleled. Unlike classical computers that operate on the binary system of 0s or 1s, quantum computers utilize quantum bits, or qubits. Qubits, based on principles of superposition and entanglement in quantum mechanics, can exist in multiple states simultaneously (superposition), and two or more qubits can be manipulated in a single operation (entanglement). Meaning a qubit can be a 0 or a…
