Vera Health Raises $28.5 Million as Clinical AI Adoption Surges

Medical professionals are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence (AI) to access medical research, review treatment options, and find answers to clinical questions, as evidenced in a 2025 American Medical Association (AMA) survey, which found that 66% of physicians used healthcare AI in 2024, up from 38% in 2023. However, the reliability of information generated by AI remains an important concern, particularly when doctors need to make decisions based on medical evidence.

San Francisco-based health technology startup Vera Health is addressing this need with an AI-powered clinical search platform that helps healthcare professionals find and evaluate medical research. The company has now raised $28.5 million in a Series A funding round as its platform expands to hundreds of thousands of clinicians worldwide.

Announced on October 27, the funding round was led by Threshold Ventures, with participation from Mantis VC and SV Angel. Existing investors Y Combinator and Gradient also increased their investments, bringing Vera Health’s total funding to $32 million.

According to the company, more than 800,000 clinicians across 190 countries now use its platform, up from a few thousand users approximately a year ago.

How Vera Health Uses AI to Help Clinicians Access Medical Research

Founded in 2024 by Taieb Bennani and Maxime Allouch, Vera Health provides an AI-powered search engine designed specifically for healthcare professionals.

The platform allows clinicians to ask questions about medical conditions, diagnoses, medication dosages, and treatment guidelines. It searches more than 60 million peer-reviewed publications, clinical guidelines, consensus statements and drug labels to provide answers supported by medical research.

Rather than generating responses without showing where the information comes from, Vera links individual claims to their supporting sources. It also uses colour-coded indicators to communicate the strength of the available evidence, helping clinicians understand whether a finding is supported by large clinical studies or limited research.

For example, when research on a particular medical condition is limited to a small case series or a report involving a single patient, the platform makes those limitations visible.

This approach is intended to help doctors assess the reliability of medical information before using it to inform clinical decisions.

Vera Health also offers Vera Spaces, a feature that allows healthcare institutions to incorporate their own clinical protocols and medical guidelines into the platform.

Vera has also partnered with the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) to make the organisation’s clinical policies available directly within its platform. Through the partnership, emergency physicians can access ACEP guidelines as part of answers to clinical questions, with the organisation’s branding and source attribution. The collaboration gives ACEP insight into the clinical questions physicians frequently ask, which can help inform future guideline development and educational priorities.

Vera Health’s Growing Adoption Among Medical Professionals

Vera Health says its platform has grown largely through recommendations from medical professionals rather than a large sales operation.

The company reports that approximately one in four physicians in Spain and Italy now use its platform. It also became the most downloaded clinical application globally across Apple’s App Store and Google Play every month since June 2026, according to the company.

As such, the growing interest in AI-powered medical search is attracting investment and competition from other technology companies.

OpenEvidence, another AI-powered medical search platform for physicians, raised $250 million in a Series D funding round back in January, where it reached a $12 billion valuation.

Medical technology company Doximity also recently partnered with Wolters Kluwer Health to integrate content from its UpToDate clinical reference platform into Doximity’s AI-powered Ask tool.

What Vera Health Plans to Do With Its New Funding

Vera Health plans to use its latest investment to strengthen its clinical evidence infrastructure, expand into additional healthcare markets, and develop partnerships with medical publishers and health systems.

The company also intends to improve access to locally relevant medical information, recognising that treatment guidelines and healthcare practices can differ across countries and institutions.

With more than 800,000 clinicians already using its platform, the new funding will support Vera Health’s efforts to expand its reach while developing tools that help medical professionals access and evaluate research more efficiently.
