Unitree Robotics Is Going Public in Shanghai at a $9 Billion Valuation and It Makes the Robots You Have Already Seen Walking Around the Internet. Here Is Whether the IPO Price Reflects Reality or Hype

Unitree Robotics has just gone public in Shanghai and audiences already recognize its robots. Viral videos have shown its humanoid and quadruped machines dancing, running, and performing backflips.

However, investors have now placed a nine billion dollar price tag on those machines. Unitree Robotics’ debut also marks China’s first mainland listing for a humanoid robot maker. A key question is worth noting; does the price reflect reality, or is it all just hype?

Unitree Robotics’ Nine Billion Dollar Debut

Recently, Unitree Robotics priced its Shanghai offering at 150.8 yuan per share. The offering valued the company near 61 billion yuan or nine billion dollars. Meanwhile, Unitree Robotics sold roughly 40 million new shares, covering about ten percent of its expanded capital.

DeepSeek joined early as a strategic investor, and proceeds will fund new hardware, software, and a manufacturing base. Then, demand surged once trading opened Wednesday, and retail investors oversubscribed the offering nearly 8,000 times.

Because of this, shares jumped 629% before cooling later in the session. Even so, the stock closed up 460%  for the day. That close valued Unitree Robotics near 50 billion dollars.

Why Investors Are Backing Unitree Robotics

However, momentum did not appear out of nowhere. It turned a profit before going public, unlike most sector rivals. In 2025 alone, revenue reached 1.7 billion yuan, and deliveries hit 18,000 robots. That record leaves the robot maker trading at 36 times sales, well below unprofitable rivals.

For example, a competitor, Figure AI, carries a 39 billion dollar valuation without generating any revenue. Investors also see strategic value in listing early. Going public first lets Unitree Robotics claim resources ahead of rivals and build lasting visibility.

Meanwhile, market forecasts back the trend, since China’s humanoid robot sector is expected to grow sharply through 2030. Momentum built further as the World Robot Conference opened in Beijing where hundreds of companies gathered there to showcase new robots.

    The Reality Behind the Hype

However, big first-day rallies do not always signal lasting value. Chinese regulators cap IPO prices deliberately and the policy fuels dramatic debut swings. A similar pattern played out for chipmaker ChangXin Memory Technologies, which jumped 460% back in July. Unitree Robotics simply repeated the pattern weeks later.

Still, analysts warn the humanoid sector needs stronger AI capabilities to sustain current demand. Without real progress, shipment growth may stall within two years. Geopolitics adds another layer of risk too.

In July, the FCC added foreign-made advanced robots to its Covered List. As a result, newer models now face tighter approval hurdles in America although existing certified models remain legal to sell there.

Ultimately, Unitree Robotics now carries a real price, not just hype. Strong sales support that price, but real risks remain. The next few years will show whether the price is justified.
