The WWDC 2025, which took place on June 9-13, has once again set the stage for the future of the Apple ecosystem. While many tech enthusiasts and developers were looking forward to groundbreaking AI innovations, Apple was more focused on making its software much better and smarter across all its devices.

WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) is Apple Inc.’s annual event where they showcase the latest advancements in their software and technology. The recently concluded online conference centered on unveiling the next major versions of Apple’s operating system for all its devices and keynote presentations for developers.

From the highly anticipated “liquid glass” design to a deeper integration of Apple intelligence, here’s a comprehensive look at major highlights from the WWDC 2025 that will shape the future of your iPhones, Macs, iPads, Apple Watches, and Vision Pros.

A Unified Vision: The “Liquid Glass” Aesthetic and Year-Based Naming

One of the major highlights from this year’s WWDC was the “liquid glass” design for all of Apple’s major operating systems. The design is based on giving a flexible, dynamic layer to apps and system experiences across Apple’s ecosystem products to make everything on your screen feel more natural and less cluttered.

The liquid glass is a sleek UI overhaul that brings a translucent and depth-rich look to iOS, macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS. Expect frosted, layered UI panels that float more naturally over app content, with elements subtly reflecting and refracting what’s on your screen.

The design is an integration of system learnings from the Aqua user interface of Mac OS X, real-time blurs of iOS 5, the fluidity of iPhone X, and the immersive interface of visionOS. It is a digital metamaterial that dynamically bends and shapes light.

Still in the flow of making things simpler for its users, Apple is changing how they name their operating systems. Instead of the former use of complicated numbers and macOS location names, Apple is shifting to a year-based system. Now we’ll have iOS 26, macOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26.

Apple Intelligence: A Smarter, More Integrated Ecosystem

Apple decided to focus more on on-device processing for enhanced privacy by weaving AI capabilities into its operating system and various applications. Key AI innovations unveiled in respect to this include

    • Visual Intelligence: This feature allows for dynamic on-screen image analysis and helps users to learn about objects and places around them instantly.
    • Writing tools: This feature helps users rewrite, proofread, and summarize written text. Its added feature, “Describe Your Change,” allows users to describe a specific change they want to make to their writing.
    • Live translations to combat language barriers when messaging or speaking. This feature is integrated into Messages, FaceTime, and Phone and enabled by Apple-built models that run entirely on the device to protect the user’s privacy.
    • GenMoji & Image Playground: This feature provides users with creative ways to express themselves. It allows users to turn a text description into a GenMoji and also allows them to mix different emojis together and make use of a text description to create something new. Image Playground allows users to make use of ChatGPT to try out brand-new styles for image generation/editing.
    • Workout Buddy: This is a first-of-its-kind workout feature on the Apple Watch. It incorporates the user’s workout data and fitness history to generate personalized and motivational insights when working out.
    • Smart Call and Message Filtering: another privacy feature that makes use of AI to screen calls and messages from unknown numbers silently, capturing caller information before the user decides to answer, effectively combating spam/phishing calls and texts.
    • Developer Access to Apple Intelligence: Apple has decided to allow developers access to its Foundation Models Framework, which allows them to tap directly and build apps using the on-device foundation model at the core of Apple Intelligence for free.

Additional Apple Intelligence features announced during the WWDC 2025 include automatic smart reminders based on an email, website, or note; Apple Wallet; Mail summaries; Smart Reply; natural language search; automatic generation of audio transcriptions in Notes; and summaries of call transcriptions.

The WWDC 2025 showcased Apple’s dedication to refining its user experience through a cohesive design language and intelligent but privacy-focused AI integration into its OS and apps. Although the company is not at the forefront of generative AI breakthroughs, its emphasis on integrating intelligence into everyday functionalities solidifies its standing in the tech industry.
