The Nintendo Direct held on the 27th of March held surprises concerning updates and games for every Nintendo fan out there. The Direct streamed for 37 minutes (a little over the previously announced 30 minutes) shorter than the usual tradition of 40 minutes of presentation time but was worth every minute.

The event was a blend of new game announcements, long-awaited remasters, and new services offered by Nintendo Switch, the definition of a gamer’s utopia. Here are highlights of every announcement and update from the event.

    • No Sleep For Kaname Date—From AI: The Somnium Files from Spike Chunsoft Inc. This game is the latest entry in the Somnium Files series and centers around Kaname Date, a special agent on a mission to rescue an internet idol “Iris” trapped in a mysterious escape game, with an advanced AI called “IBA” embedded in his left eye. The game will be available on July 25, 2025.
    • RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army produced by SEGA. The game is set in “The Capital City” in the year “Taisho 20” and revolves around Raidou Kuzunoha, an apprentice detective who secretly uses his devil summoning abilities to protect the Capital. The game will be launching on Nintendo Switch on June 19, 2025, with pre-orders starting from March 27.
    • Shadow Labyrinth from Bandai Namco Entertainment America: The game centers around a main protagonist who has lost his memories and finds himself in an unfamiliar world. The protagonist encounters “Puck” upon entry into the world, and together they work and fight together to survive and uncover Puck’s true goal. The game will be available on July 18, 2025.
    • PATAPON 1+2 Replay: From the makers of Shadow Labyrinth, the remaster of Patapon 1 and Patapon 2 showcases a unique way of creating rhythms with drums to command an army of Patapon. The game will be available on July 11, 2025.
    • Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar. The game, a new entry in the Story of Seasons series, is about slice-of-life and farming activities in a town called Zephyr. Points and upgrades obtained when the products are sold at the town’s weekly bazaar are used  to raise the town back to its former glory. It will be available on August 27, 2025.
    • Metroid Prime 4: Beyond: The game centers on an unknown planet, “Viewros,” where the protagonist, Samus, fights and creates paths to survive whilst gaining abilities with every win. The game’s launch date has not been announced yet.
    • Disney Villains Cursed Cafe from Disney Games: The game centers around a coffee shop that is transformed into a cursed cafe that allows the gamers to craft potions for Disney villains, capable of influencing each villain’s storyline to result in a different ending every time. The game will be available from March 27, 2025.
    • Witchbrook from Chucklefish: it has the outlook of a gaming world for Harry Potter fans, the story centers on Witchbrook College for Magical Arts. It not only centers on the academy but also gives a glimpse of other facets in life. It will be launched in 2025.
    • Gradius Origins: To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Gradius, Nintendo has come up with an all-in-one collection of games in the series, like Gradius 1, 2 & 3, and Salamander 1 & 2, some from different versions and years, alongside a brand new entry to the series, Gradius 3. The game will be available August 7th, 2025, with pre-orders starting from March 27th, 2025.
    • Rift of the NecroDancer from Brace Yourself Games centers around using dance battles to defeat monsters. The game features mini games, leaderboards, and the promise of musical mayhem. The game launches on March 27, 2025.
    • Tamagotchi Plaza from the makers of Shadow Labyrinth. It is a new entry to the Tamagotchi Connection series. It centers around the daily life of the Tamagotchi running their businesses. It launches on June 27, 2025.
    • Pokemon Legends: Z-A is the newest addition to the Pokemon series. The game is about life in Lumiose City, where people and Pokémon coexist. However, all is not as it seems when the city takes on a different aura at night. To be released late 2025.
    • Rhythm Heaven Groove. A new entry in the Rhythm Heaven series, this is a hilarious rhythm game where successfully acing the game depends on following the rhythm. To be released in 2026.
    • Nintendo’s Virtual Game Card: The virtual game card functions like a physical game card for the system. When a digital game is purchased by the user using the switch system, it is automatically loaded as a virtual game card. Each digital game purchased will be lined up as a virtual game card on a management screen where the user can load, eject, and manage the games of their choice. It  can function like a physical game card as it can also be ejected from one Switch system to another. Through wireless connection, the virtual game card can be lent to family group members . However, it only allows you to lend one game at a time to a particular person.

Other games presented during the Nintendo Direct event are The Wandering Village from Stray Fawn Studios, available July 17, 2025; King of Meat from Glowmade; Lou’s Lagoon from Megabit Publishing; Fantasy Life I: The Girl Who Steals Time from LEVEL5, available May 21, 2025; SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered, available from March 27, 2025; Monument Valley 1, 2 & 3; Everybody’s Golf: Hot Shots; Eternal Life of Goldman from THQ Nordic; Marvel Cosmic Invasion; and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream.

The event’s focus on remasters of beloved classics, new releases, and its virtual game card has generated a bubbling excitement in the Nintendo community. And with a steady stream of game releases throughout the year, there is much to look forward to for Nintendo fans and Nintendo.
