OpenAI is moving deeper into enterprise software with Presence, a managed platform for deploying AI agents. The launch expands the company’s role beyond AI models and assistants.

Instead, Presence gives businesses tools for putting agents into real workflows. The platform supports voice and chat agents for high-volume, high-stakes operations. Consequently, companies can use AI for tasks requiring controls, permissions, and human oversight. OpenAI says Presence is already available to selected enterprise customers.

OpenAI Presence Brings AI Agents Into Enterprise Workflows

Presence combines OpenAI models with business systems, policies, and permissions. Therefore, agents can access approved information and perform authorized actions. The platform also provides testing, monitoring, evaluations, guardrails, and human escalation. These tools help companies manage agents before and after deployment.

Moreover, Presence targets practical business operations rather than general-purpose assistance. OpenAI highlights customer support, billing resolutions, insurance claims, and employee IT requests. The platform also supports sales workflows.

However, companies cannot currently deploy Presence through a self-service product. Instead, OpenAI uses managed deployments involving its engineers and selected systems integrators.

Presence Raises the Stakes for Enterprise AI

The launch gives OpenAI a stronger position in the enterprise agent market. Meanwhile, Microsoft, Salesforce, and ServiceNow already offer competing agent capabilities. Microsoft provides Copilot Studio, while Salesforce uses Agentforce across business processes. ServiceNow also deploys AI agents across enterprise workflows.

As a result, businesses gain another option for automating complex operations. Still, Presence does not automatically replace existing enterprise platforms. Instead, its immediate value lies in deploying governed agents around specific workflows.

For OpenAI, the bigger opportunity involves moving closer to enterprise software itself. For the industry, the launch raises competition around agent deployment, governance and integration.

Ultimately, businesses will decide which platform can reliably connect AI with their existing systems. That competition could shape how companies automate work as enterprise agents mature.
