How Lettuce Financial $28M Raise Will Change Banking for Solo Entrepreneurs

Lettuce Financial recently closed a $28 million funding round, a big step that brings new financial tools and services tailored specifically for solo entrepreneurs (solopreneurs). For the U.S.-based fintech startup, it’s more about redefining how independent professionals manage money, taxes, healthcare, and planning for the future.

Led by existing investor Zeev Ventures, the $28 million raise combined with the strategic acquisition of healthcare benefits startup Besolo, will allow Lettuce to reshape the banking experience for one-person businesses especially in ways that challenge traditional financial institutions’ ability to serve solopreneurs.

Nearly half of the U.S. workforce is expected to freelance by 2027, with millions of solopreneurs now reportedly earning $100,000 or more annually. However, these independent workers face challenges that traditional banks and financial services haven’t addressed at all.

It is why Lettuce Financial’s new funding is touted to fuel the creation of a financial operating system that is designed to fill that gap and address the pain point.

Making Banking Fit the Solo Entrepreneur

Anyone who has worked solo knows and understands the hassle of juggling multiple financial tools to run their business. Traditional banks often see providing niche services to solopreneurs as too risky or complicated, which leaves these professionals to manually stitch together bank accounts, tax software, and insurance on their own.

But with this funding, Lettuce may flip this on its head by embedding banking directly into a platform where everything works together. While the startup’s partnership with TransPecos Bank already allows it to provide business accounts, debit cards, and other financial banking services, this $28 million funding further equips Lettuce to build out smarter and AI-powered banking features, which includes automated cash flow tracking and tax withholding features that move beyond manual calculations.

This means when it’s time for solopreneurs to pay taxes, they already see it calculated and automatically set aside as opposed to manually scrambling to figure it out. This also means cash management becomes proactive, instead of reactive.

Lettuce Financial will also make retirement planning a natural part of its banking experience. Retirement for solopreneurs can often feel like an afterthought because they’re running a one-person business, especially when it comes to traditionally setting up a Solo 401(k) or SEP IRA as they require separate accounts and advisors.

With this funding, Lettuce will build an AI-powered guidance for its users on the best retirement options, with plans and tax implications explained clearly and carefully, as the startup’s systems already understand the complexities of the U.S. tax system and the S-corp compliance.

“The solo economy represents one of the fastest-growing segments of the American workforce, yet these professionals remain dramatically underserved,” Ran Harpaz, founder and CEO of Lettuce said. “We’re committed to leveling the playing field so growth-oriented solopreneurs receive the same operational efficiencies and advantages that have always benefited larger companies – from accounting and tax solutions to healthcare benefits and retirement savings options.”

Adding Healthcare Benefits to Lettuce Financial Services

A standout part of this raise is the recent acquisition of Besolo, a healthcare benefits startup. Healthcare access is a major hurdle for the self-employed, with nearly half of freelancers based in the U.S. lacking insurance in past years.

By bringing healthcare benefits under the same roof as banking, Lettuce is merging financial management and personal wellbeing. Soon, users will access dental, vision, and life insurance on a platform built for their solo lifestyle.

This healthcare addition will change how solopreneurs think and take actions on risk and security, especially as health coverage is now part of the startup’s core financial toolkit.

Additionally, Lettuce Financial is upgrading its AI-powered assistant, LettuceHead AI, with a voice-enabled feature. This means solopreneurs can now ask for guidance simply by talking to the AI-powered chatbot.

The funding will also support Lettuce Financial into building more partnerships with platforms like Upwork and NEXT Insurance, where freelancers and solopreneurs are already active.

What This Means for Solo Entrepreneurs and the Market

Solopreneurs traditionally face a fragmented and complicated financial landscape. It is why Lettuce’s $28 million raise will push the fintech industry into further consolidating these services into one seamless experience that is purposefully crafted for independent workers.

By bundling banking, tax management, healthcare, and retirement planning together in a package, Lettuce has already elevated solopreneurs to a new financial level.

The implications of this funding also go beyond individual users. As Lettuce Financial grows, it puts pressure on traditional banks to innovate or partner with platforms that are designed for solo entrepreneurs.

“As a company that’s focused on and committed to high-earning solopreneurs, we’ve built a comprehensive operating system that takes care of their unique needs, end to end, not just the payroll, not just the banking, not just the taxes, not just the retirement, not just the healthcare,” Harpaz noted. “We’re the only ones doing that.”
