Nvidia has brought six of the world’s biggest investment firms into the AI infrastructure race, creating financing platforms designed to mobilize more than $500 billion in third-party capital.

Partnered with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs, and KKR, the initiative is aimed at helping AI labs, cloud providers, and enterprises finance the expensive computing infrastructure needed to expand their operations.

The scale matters because building AI infrastructure now requires far more than buying GPUs. Companies need servers, networking equipment, data centers and power capacity, which, in turn, creates a capital requirement that can stretch into billions of dollars before an AI system generates revenue.

Nvidia Wants AI Compute Treated Like Infrastructure

Under the new arrangement, the six financial firms will establish independent financing platforms that can provide long-term funding for AI infrastructure. The goal is to make it easier for Nvidia customers to obtain computing capacity without having to finance the entire buildout themselves.

The more than $500 billion figure represents potential third-party capital that the platforms could mobilize over time. Nvidia has signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the financial firms, while specific financing terms and deployment schedules have not been disclosed.

CEO Jensen Huang has argued that AI computing can increasingly be treated as an investable infrastructure asset because it can generate revenue, serve multiple customers and be redeployed. The company is effectively asking financial markets to view AI factories in a similar way to other productive infrastructure.

Nvidia is Still Taking Some Risk

Nvidia is not completely removed from the financing structure.

Reuters reported that the company could provide support for up to 25% of individual deals, potentially representing as much as $125 billion if the entire $500 billion target were deployed. The support is intended to reduce financing risk around Nvidia-powered infrastructure and give investors greater confidence in the value of the equipment.

This structure also separates the initiative from a simple Nvidia lending program, as the financial institutions are expected to assess projects independently, while Nvidia’s role can include supporting the residual value of its hardware.

Wall Street is Becoming Part of the AI Buildout

The move comes as AI companies and infrastructure providers are seeking enormous amounts of capital to expand data center capacity.

Morgan Stanley estimates that nearly $3 trillion in AI-related infrastructure investment will flow through the global economy by 2028, with more than 80% of that spending still ahead. The firm also estimates that about half of the expected data-center spending could come from hyperscalers’ own cash flows, leaving roughly $1.5 trillion to be sourced through credit markets and other forms of external financing.

As such, Nvidia’s latest move pushes that relationship further. The company has spent years supplying the chips and systems powering the AI boom. It is now helping build the financial machinery that can put more of those systems into data centers around the world.

As it stands, the next test is whether investors will treat AI compute as durable infrastructure worth financing at this scale.
