SambaNova has secured $1 billion in new funding at an $11 billion post money valuation as the AI chip company pushes deeper into one of the fastest growing parts of the artificial intelligence market.

Rather than competing head-on in training massive AI models, the company is focusing on inference, the stage where models generate responses to users. This recent funding is a sign of growing investor confidence that enterprise demand is shifting toward faster and more efficient AI deployment.

The first close of the company’s Series F round was led by General Atlantic, with significant participation from Seligman Ventures, T. Rowe Price Associates, and Capital Group. Existing investors including Intel Capital, BlackRock, Qatar Investment Authority, Vista Equity Partners, and Battery Ventures also joined the round. SambaNova said additional investors are expected to participate before the financing is completed.

Why Inference has Become the Next AI Battleground

For much of the AI boom, the attention was majorly on training increasingly larger models using powerful graphics processors, which is an area where Nvidia remains the market leader. Today, many enterprises are spending more on inference because it powers the real-time responses users receive from chatbots, AI agents, and business applications.

SambaNova believes this shift creates an opportunity for hardware designed specifically for inference instead of general purpose AI workloads. The company develops custom chips, complete hardware systems, and cloud services that are optimized to run large language models (LLMs) efficiently while consuming less power.

Chief Executive Officer Rodrigo Liang said the company’s valuation reflects the growing importance of fast enterprise inference. He added that organizations increasingly want AI systems that can deliver secure and reliable performance inside their own infrastructure instead of relying entirely on public cloud services.

    Enterprise Customers are Driving Demand

The funding announcement arrived alongside another important milestone for SambaNova. The company revealed that JPMorganChase has selected its inference systems, SN40L and SN50, to power secure on-premises AI deployments.

According to Liang, SambaNova is seeing demand from three major customer groups. These include sovereign AI cloud providers backed by governments, cloud infrastructure companies building AI services, and enterprises deploying AI for internal business operations. The company also counts Saudi Aramco, Intel, and several Japanese organizations among its customers.

SambaNova said the new capital will primarily be used to expand operations and strengthen its supply chain so it can meet increasing customer demand over the coming year.

The Competition with Nvidia is Taking a Different Path

SambaNova is entering a market where Nvidia continues to dominate AI infrastructure. Instead of trying to replace Nvidia across every AI workload, the company is concentrating on inference performance and efficiency.

Its latest SN50 platform was introduced earlier this year with a design aimed at running large AI models at high speed while reducing infrastructure costs. SambaNova says its architecture allows very large models to fit within a single rack, helping customers process AI requests faster without expanding their hardware footprint.

The latest funding round shows that investors increasingly believe the next phase of AI growth will depend not only on building bigger models but also on delivering them quickly, securely, and efficiently where businesses actually use them.

As more enterprises move AI into production, companies focused on inference are positioning themselves to capture a larger share of the rapidly expanding AI infrastructure market.
