Samsung’s Ultra-Thin Galaxy Z Fold 7 with AI Camera Upgrades

Samsung has officially teased its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7, promising what the company calls “the thinnest, lightest and more advanced foldable yet,” with remarkable AI-powered camera enhancements. The South Korean tech giant is positioning this next-gen foldable as a major leap forward in both design and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, with a rumored launch in July 2025.

Foldable smartphones have come a long way since their introduction, but one common complaint has persisted, which is that they tend to be bulky and heavy. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 represents Samsung’s most ambitious effort yet to address the persistent criticism that foldable phones are too bulky. “The newest Galaxy Z series is the thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldable yet – meticulously crafted and built to last,” said Samsung in its announcement.

Reports suggest that the device will measure just 4.54mm when unfolded and 9mm when folded. This is a noticeable reduction compared to the previous Galaxy Z Fold 6, which measured 5.6mm unfolded and 12.1mm folded. If these numbers hold true, the Z Fold 7 will be among the slimmest foldables on the market, rivaling even the thinnest models from competitors like OPPO.

Samsung’s engineers have reportedly achieved this slim profile through a complete redesign of the phone’s internal components. The motherboard, battery, and hinge mechanism have all been reworked to save space and reduce weight, without sacrificing performance or durability. Despite its thinner build, the Z Fold 7 is expected to feature a larger 8.0-inch main display and a 6.5-inch cover screen, offering users more viewing area than before.

While the design improvements are impressive, Samsung is also making big promises in the camera development. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is rumored to feature a new 200-megapixel main camera sensor, a major upgrade from the 50-megapixel sensor in the previous model. This powerful sensor, similar to the one found in Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra, is designed to deliver ultra-clear photos and enhanced zoom capabilities.

In addition to this is the integration of advanced AI features into the camera system. The new AI-powered camera will be able to analyze scenes in real time, automatically adjusting settings for the best possible shot. For example, the camera can recognize different environments, such as landscapes, cityscapes, or portraits, as well as optimize lighting, focus, and color balance accordingly.

Samsung says the AI will also offer contextual intelligence. This means the camera can understand what you’re photographing and provide useful suggestions or information. For example, you may instantly receive historical facts after pointing your camera at a famous landmark. Or even capturing a sign in a foreign language and seeing a real-time translation on your screen.

The AI will also help with framing and composition, making it easier for users to take professional-looking photos and videos even if they are not photography experts. For content creators and professionals, the Z Fold 7 will introduce enhanced video features as well. A new Pro-Visual engine and advanced “log video” recording tools are expected to give users more control over their footage, making the device a strong choice for mobile filmmakers and vloggers.

The smartphone is also expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset paired with up to 12GB of RAM and storage options that go as high as 1TB. This ensures that the phone can handle demanding tasks, from multitasking across multiple windows to running AI-powered applications smoothly.

According to an X post by the infamous tipster, Evan Blass, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is meant to be officially unveiled at Samsung’s next Unpacked event, which he says will take place on July 9, 2025, in New York City at 10AM ET.
