A recent report provided by a TFI Security Analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, has given us more information on Apple’s First Foldable iPhone, set to begin mass production in late 2026, and release in full capacity in early 2027.

According to the report, it is said to be priced at $2,000 – $2,500, making it more expensive than competing models like the Galaxy Z Fold series, and the Motorola Razr+ series.

FEATURES

Here’s what Kuo’s report says we should expect:

  • Display Size and Type: The foldable iPhone is expected to have a big and flexible screen that unfolds to give a much larger screen. “It will have a book-style design, featuring an approximately 7.8-inch crease-free inner display and an approximately 5.5-inch outer display,” Kuo says. The larger screen also aids a better AI experience.
  • Design and Build: While Kuo’s report heavily highlights the display, his mention of a “book-style design” suggests a sleek, foldable shape that’s different from regular iPhones. As such, it is likely to feel premium and lightweight, staying true to Apple’s usual style.
  • Touch ID: As a result of the thickness and internal space constraints that would emerge due to the foldability of the smartphone, Face ID may not be available on this iPhone. Instead, Touch ID will return as a side button.
  • Camera: “The rear camera features a dual-lens setup, with one front-facing camera available in both folded and unfolded states,” says Kuo. He further adds that when folded, it will measure 9-9.5mm, and 4.5-4.8mm when unfolded.

However, achieving a crease-free display still poses a great challenge. While other challenges like durability, battery life, and cost are all relevant, Apple aims to deliver a seamless crease-free display, highlighting a significant hurdle to cross. This reflects Apple’s commitment to creating cutting-edge design and enhancing user satisfaction.

It is important to note that amongst other things is the major market positioning of the foldable iPhone as a True AI-driven Phone, according to Kuo. Apple’s foldable iPhone is positioned as a premium AI-driven device with a large screen that enhances multimodal functionality and cross-app integration, in turn, enabling seamless tasks like chatting with a chatbot while viewing a map simultaneously.

The pricing, coupled with the aforementioned features, allows for the usual iPhone must-have leverage and status to drive a strong demand. This is, however, contingent on Apple meeting the quality expectations of a foldable iPhone.
